A seminar in the Faculty of Arts on newspapers as a source of history.
The Faculty of Arts and Humanities, through the Department of History, organized a scientific seminar for its students on newspapers as a source of history, in the college hall, with the attendance of a number of faculty members and college students.

At the beginning of the seminar, the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Saeed Abu Khadr, said that this seminar aims to shed light on one of the sources of modern historical knowledge, develop our awareness of the importance of newspapers and their role in recording events, and monitor the social, cultural and political transformations to deepen the understanding of the stages of history formation for modern societies, which stimulates scientific life, opens spaces for dialogue and research, and enables students with modern knowledge tools.

The speakers at the seminar presented the students with a new research methodology and study, stating that the press is a general historical source.

Dr. Muhammad Bani Issa, a specialist in Ottoman studies, pointed out through his scientific paper, "Taqvim-i Vekayi" newspaper as a model, explaining that this newspaper formed the first nucleus of the Ottoman press in 1831 AD, reviewing the beginnings, participation in it, and publishing, explaining the emergence of Ottoman newspapers and that press sources enrich the reader. Bani Issa also explained the importance of the press and its meanings in documenting events, as it is a means of expressing opinion, pointing to the emergence of French newspapers in the Ottoman Empire.

Dr. Ihab Zaher, a specialist in the history of the Arab world, spoke about newspapers in the Arab world, their beginnings, and how researchers deal with them. He reviewed how to deal with political topics and the need to extract information accurately and usefully for the researcher, as well as the economic aspect and encouraging the intellectual aspect of getting rid of European dependence.

Dr. Anas Al-Amoush, a specialist in modern and contemporary history, spoke about the role of the press in the Hijaz and discussed Al-Qibla newspaper as a source for his study of the history of the Hijaz and the Arab Revolution, which was printed in the Amiri presses of the Hashemite government, and the topics it covered as material that provides comprehensiveness for researchers as a scientific source, especially after the entry of fast tools, which enhanced the position and importance of the press as a source.

At the end of the seminar, which was presented and managed by the Head of the History Department, Dr. Khader Al-Sarhan, he indicated that such seminars contribute significantly to pushing the teaching process forward.
