The Center for Women's Studies organizes a panel discussion in cooperation with Solidarity Is Global Institute-Jo
The Center for Women’s Studies, in partnership with the
organization of Solidarity Is Global Institute-Jo (SIGI), organized a panel discussion
entitled “Marriage of those under 18, Achieving the Child’s Best Interest
and Ensuring the Right to Education”. The director of the center, Dr. Bayan
Al-Madi, welcomed the audience and briefed the panel’s topics. Then, Ms. Ina’am
Al-Asha of SIGI-Jordan started the discussion by talking about the protection
and safety project and the importance of the issue of ensuring the right of
underage marriage to education through it. After that, the former Sharia judge,
Dr. Salem Al-Akour, handled the topic of compliance with the legal requirement
to complete education for those under 18. Prof. Asmaa Al-Ibrahim of the Faculty
of Educational Sciences talked about the role of social heritage and positive
customs and traditions in supporting social guarantees to complete education. The
Dean of the Faculty of Nursing, Prof. Manar Al-Azzam, spoke about the
psychological, economic and health effects of marrying those under 18,
achieving the child’s best interest and ensuring the right to education.
At
the end of the panel, a discussion took place with the women of the local
community and female students from the various university’s faculties.
