Al-Harahsheh auspices closing the 14th Omani International Conference

On behalf of the President of the University, Prof. Mohammad Al-Harahsheh, Vice President for Academic Affairs, sponsored the closing ceremony and honoring the participants in the 14th International Scientific Conference on “Omani Manuscripts, Indexing, Auditing and Studying between Reality and Prospects", which was organized by Al al-Bayt University represented by the Omani Studies Unit in cooperation with the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs represented by the Ifta Office in Oman.

The conference included ten sessions over two days, in which the participants presented their visions and ideas on the various scientific axes of the conference, that dealt with issues of the artistic written heritage of Omani manuscripts, the means of its preservation, protection and care, as well as the official and civil efforts made in this field.

The conference concluded with some recommendations, including:

  • The necessity of unifying Omani efforts and coordinating between the parties interested in the affairs of manuscripts, in order to complete a unified index that reveals the hidden treasures of manuscripts in the Sultanate's public and private libraries.
  • Emphasizing the importance of speeding up the digitization of the Omani written heritage, and uploading it on the global network automatically in order to ensure its sustainability, provide it to students, and facilitate ways to benefit from it.
  • Emphasized the pioneering scientific role played by the Memory of Oman Center in the Sultanate in safeguarding the scientific heritage, indexing, auditing and publishing, as well as the unique role it attaches to care and attention.

Sheikh Abd Al-Rahman bin Ahmed al-Khalili from the Ifta Department of the Omani Ministry of Endowments thanked Al al-Bayt University for hosting the conference and presenting important scientific papers. He indicated that the next step is to submit papers for arbitration, printing, publishing, and cooperating with the relevant institutions to implement the recommendations made by the participants.

Al-Harahsheh, in turn, thanked on behalf of the university all the participants who came to the university from all parts of the Arab world, pointing out that the university opens its arms to all of the students and researchers, and it will remain a beacon of knowledge to serve the country and the nation.

Dr. Fadl Mahmoud from Iraq delivered a speech on behalf of the participants, in which he expressed his sincere feelings towards Jordan's leadership and the university's management for providing comfort to the participants and communicating new and renewable information to advance the concept of the Omani manuscript.

The Director of the Omani Studies Unit, Prof. Anwar Al-Khalidi, thanked all those who played a major role during the conference, indicating that the efforts made were a reason for the success of the conference.

The participants also expressed their great gratitude to Al al-Bayt University represented by the Omani Studies Unit and the Omani Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs represented by the Ifta Office for organizing this conference.
