On behalf of the Minister of Health, the Director of Health Affairs of Al-Mafraq Governorate, Dr. Faisal Al-Makahleh, sponsored the activities of the awareness day, which this year came under the title “Breast Cancer Awareness and Mental Health,” in the presence of MP Mai Al-Harahsheh, and the representative of the President of Al al-Bayt University, the Vice President for Community Affairs, Professor Dr. Hani Akho Arshideh, and in cooperation between the Al-Mafraq Health Directorate and Al al-Bayt University, at the Al-Hassan bin Talal Amphitheater at the University.
During the ceremony, Dr. Al-Makahleh stressed the importance of awareness and early detection as the first line of defense for health, pointing out that health is not complete without psychological balance, and that combining physical and mental health is essential because they are two basic pillars of human life.
He indicated that the Ministry of Health pays great attention to awareness and early detection programs and enhancing the concept of comprehensive health care, prevention, support, and health education, with the aim of combating breast cancer and raising the level of awareness of the importance of periodic examination and early detection, pointing out that this cooperation with Al al-Bayt University comes within the framework of promoting health awareness among the Jordanian society.
During the panel discussion that was held as part of the awareness day activities, Dr. Nidaa Shdefat, a diagnostic radiology specialist at Al-Mafraq Governmental Hospital, presented a scientific intervention in which she explained the importance of early detection of breast cancer, and introduced the audience to the most prominent preventive measures and necessary examinations, such as mammography, in addition to the most important symptoms and signs that may indicate infection. to the disease.
Dr. Abdullah Matouq from the Department of Non-Communicable Diseases in the Ministry of Health also spoke about ways to fight cancer and means of psychological and physical support for those infected, reviewing the rates of infection in Jordan and the Ministry’s efforts to combat it.
For her part, Ms. Hamsa Al-Amoush, representative of the local committees, indicated the active role played by the committees in breaking the barrier of fear among patients and society, and promoting health awareness through field and volunteer work.
Ms. Nariman Kfouf and Ms. Rima Al-Khalidi, who are survivors of the disease, also presented their personal experiences to the audience, and how they were able, with determination and perseverance, to overcome the treatment and complete recovery phase, thanks to God, stressing the importance of early detection in saving lives.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, which was presented by Shirin Kfouf, and included artistic performances and folk dances presented by the Roman Catholic School band and the Zaha Cultural Center band, in the presence of Father Girgis Samawi and a number of representatives of official and civil institutions and professional associations in Al-Mafraq Governorate, Dr. Al-Makahleh, MP Mai Al-Harahsheh, and Dr. Hani Akho Arshideh honored the participants in the awareness day and distributed honorary shields.
