A panel discussion on university students and party life in Jordan towards effective participation
As part of a series of activities carried out by the Deanship of Student Affairs through the Department of Political Education, the Department of Political Education, in cooperation with the National Center for Human Rights, implemented an awareness discussion session entitled "University Students and Party Life in Jordan Towards Effective Participation." The speakers from the National Center were Attorney Rami Al-Hashem, Head of the International Agreements and Treaties Unit, and Attorney Omar Bani Mustafa, Head of the Awareness and Training Unit at the National Center for Human Rights, in the presence of the Dean of Student Affairs Assistants, Dr. Hanan Al-Momani and Dr. Lotfi Al-Masaeed, and the Director of the Department of Political Education, Abdel Halim Abu Dalbouh, at the Al-Bakhit Amphitheater at the Faculty of Business at the University.
The discussion session began with a presentation by Attorney Rami Al-Hashem, Head of the International Agreements and Treaties Unit, in which he reviewed the most prominent provisions of the Jordanian Political Parties Law No. (7) of 2022, explaining its objectives in promoting political participation and enabling young people to engage in party work within the legal and constitutional frameworks. He also discussed in detail the system for regulating the practice of student party activities in higher education institutions, explaining the importance of ensuring a safe and neutral university environment that supports freedom of party work and guarantees responsible democratic practice.
Attorney Omar Bani Mustafa, Head of the Awareness and Training Unit at the Center, also gave a presentation on the role of the National Center for Human Rights in promoting and protecting public rights and freedoms, pointing to the national efforts made in spreading the culture of human rights, and raising awareness of the importance of participating in the democratic process as one of the pillars of political development, stressing the importance of these meetings in enhancing students’ awareness of national issues and party participation, and consolidating the culture of dialogue and effective participation in public life, in line with the national vision of empowering young people and involving them in decision-making.
The Director of the Department of Political Education, Abdel Halim Abu Dalbouh, welcomed the delegation of the National Center for Human Rights, and indicated that the university provides a safe university environment for its students through the departments spread throughout the Deanship of Student Affairs and supports freedom of thought and expression, in accordance with the laws and regulations in force.
At the conclusion of the discussion session, an extensive dialogue took place between the lecturers with the active participation of university students, which dealt with the importance of consolidating the culture of political participation and promoting democratic values within the university campus.
