International Online Symposium: Jordan in the Writings of Travelers and Geographers Throughout the Ages
On behalf of His Excellency Professor Dr. President of Al al-Bayt University, Professor Dr. Osama Nusair Al-Mukarram, Professor Dr. Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Human Sciences inaugurated the international symposium "Jordan in the Books of Travelers and Geographers Throughout the Ages," which was organized by the Department of History at the Faculty online (Webinar) on the occasion of the seventy-ninth anniversary of the Independence Day of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, with the participation of a selection of professors and researchers from Jordan and the sister Arab countries, as part of a series of seminars "Jordan in the Eyes of Arab Academics," which aims to encourage researchers and academics from inside and outside Jordan to research and explore the history of Jordan through various historical stages.
The opening and the symposium were moderated by Dr. Khader Al-Sarhan, Head of the Department of History at Al al-Bayt University, starting with the Royal Anthem, followed by a recitation of verses from the Holy Quran, then the poet Dr. Ismail Hammouni from the Kingdom of Morocco recited a sweet poem dedicated to Jordan on the occasion of Independence Day, then Dr. Khader Al-Sarhan - Head of the Department of History presented a welcoming speech to the participants, then Professor Dr. Saeed Abu Khader, representative of His Excellency the President of the University, presented a welcoming speech,
In the presence of faculty members and students from inside and outside the university, and in the presence of Dr. Younis Al-Jamra, head of the Ain Al-Sultan Foundation for Studies and Research, who will be responsible for publishing the scientific papers, after arbitrating them according to the rules, in the Ibn Rushd Scientific Journal - seventeen professors from Arab countries and professors from Jordanian universities presented summaries of their research papers over a session that lasted from eight in the evening until eleven at night. Memories of History and Specters of Geography", and Dr. Muhanna Bilal Al-Rashid, member of the Arab Writers Union / Syria, "Human Activity on the Banks of the Jordan River", and Dr. Ikram Al-Bashir Al-Jamal / Misrata University / Libya "Jordan and its Landmarks Through the Book Dictionary of Countries by Yaqut Al-Hamawi", and Dr. Nader bin Abdul Sattar from the Faculty of April 9 / Tunisia "The Writings of Travelers and Geographers in Describing the Palace of Mushatta", and Dr. Hanaa Abdul Karim, University of Aden / Yemen "The City of Ajloun in the Eyes of the Traveler Ibn Battuta", and Dr. Jamaan Abdullah Al-Shahrani, a researcher in modern and contemporary history from Saudi Arabia "The Caravan of Pilgrims of Eastern Jordan as Seen by Travelers During the Twelfth Hijri Century Eighteenth AD", and Dr. Abdullatif Musharraf from Mardin Artuklu University / Turkey "Geopolitical Changes in Jordan During the Ottoman Era and their Impact on the Perceptions of Travelers and Geographers of the Region and its Borders", and Dr. Hind Fakhri from the University of Mosul / Iraq "Petra in the Writings of Johann Ludwig Burckhardt and the Dialectic of its Discovery to the Western World", and Professor Dr. Muhammad Kantawi from the University of Adrar - Algeria and Dr. Nisreen Atiya / University of Tamanrasset - Algeria "The Image of Umm Qais in the Eyes of Jordanian Poets: Heritage, History and Civilization", Assistant Professor Dr. Okab Youssef Jumaa from the University of Mosul / Iraq "The Origin of the Name Jordan in Linguistic, Geographical and Historical Sources", and Professor Dr. Fathi Salem Hamidi Al-Luhaibi from the University of Mosul / Iraq "The Jordan Valley in the Perspective of Muslim Geographers and Travelers: Between Reality and Geographical Knowledge".
Professors from Jordanian universities presented summaries of their papers, namely Professor Dr. Walid Al-Oraied from Yarmouk University "Jordan in Ottoman Sources", Professor Dr. Hail Mudhi Al-Bari from Mutah University "The Image of Jordan in the Writings of John Mandeville and Alec Kirkbride", Professor Dr. Asma Jadallah Khasawneh from Jadara University and Dr. Khader Eid Al-Sarhan from Al al-Bayt University "The Jordanian Countries in Burckhardt's Journey", and Dr. Abdul Majeed Al-Hajj from Al al-Bayt University "Michael Speidel's Vision on the Romans' Interest in Building the Trajan Road in the Jordan Region (Arab Province) After the Fall of the Nabataean Kingdom"
At the conclusion of the symposium, an extensive discussion took place, and the attendees praised the valuable research issues presented in this symposium, and its scientific importance in the field of historical studies, and the possibility of benefiting from it in other fields of knowledge.
At the conclusion of the symposium, the representative of His Excellency Professor Dr. President of the University, gave a word of thanks to the participants and attendees, hoping that the upcoming international symposium will be held within the series of Jordan in the Eyes of Arab Academics, in the halls of Al al-Bayt University.
