As part of its celebrations of the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, and under the patronage of the President of Al al-Bayt University, Professor Osama Nusair, the Azerbaijani Cultural Day was held, in the presence of the Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Amman, Mr. Eldar Salimov. The event was organized by the Faculty of Arts and Humanities in cooperation with the Azerbaijani Embassy in Amman, and hosted its activities in the Al-Hassan bin Talal Amphitheater, in the presence of the President of Nakhchivan State University in Azerbaijan, the Deputy and Advisor to the President of the same University, a number of members of the diplomatic corps at the Embassy, and a number of deans of faculties at the University.
In his welcoming speech, the President of the University, Professor Osama Nusair, expressed that this event reflects the University's joint commitment to building bridges of communication between the Jordanian and Azerbaijani peoples, stressing the role of culture as a tool for rapprochement between peoples and a means of understanding the other and respecting diversity. He pointed out that this day came to introduce our university and local community to the rich cultural heritage of the Republic of Azerbaijan, which is a bridge between East and West, and a cradle of an ancient history that extends for thousands of years, stressing that this stems from the depth of the solid relations between Jordan and Azerbaijan, and what distinguishes the two countries of a rich cultural heritage embodied in the diverse arts, in addition to the richness of historical monuments and literature that contribute to enriching world literature.
For his part, Ambassador Eldar Salimov expressed his pride in organizing this event at Al al-Bayt University, pointing to the depth of historical relations between Jordan and Azerbaijan, which were laid down by the national leader Heydar Aliyev and His Majesty King Hussein bin Talal, and are being strengthened today by the visions of the two countries' leaderships.
In turn, Professor Alberos Isayev, President of Nakhchivan State University, expressed his thanks to the University for the warm reception, stressing the importance of enhancing cultural and academic cooperation between the two countries.
The representative of the Jordanian-Azerbaijani Friendship Association, Engineer Jamal Abu Obeid, indicated that Al al-Bayt University, with its high academic standing, plays a pivotal role in promoting this cultural dialogue by hosting such events that contribute to building bridges between nations.
For his part, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Professor Saeed Abu Khader, pointed out that the coincidence of the Azerbaijani Cultural Day activities at Al al-Bayt University with the international celebration of the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development,
A short film about Azerbaijani culture was shown, and a dance performance from Azerbaijani folk folklore was presented, followed by the distribution of certificates of appreciation to the participants in the Azerbaijani Cultural Day, as part of the cultural diversity activities. The delegation toured a number of university campus facilities, through which they were briefed on the services provided to university students.
On the sidelines of the celebration held at the University, Professor Osama Nusair received in his office the Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Amman, Mr. Eldar Salimov, and Professor Alberos Isayev, President of Nakhchivan State University, his deputy and advisor, and a number of members of the diplomatic corps at the Azerbaijani Embassy in Amman, in the presence of Engineer Jamal Abu Obeid representing the Jordanian-Azerbaijani Friendship Association, and members of the Association.
Dr. Nusair presented a brief overview of the University's programs, goals and future plans, pointing to the joint academic cooperation between the University and the Republic of Azerbaijan, which culminated in the signing of a joint memorandum of understanding between the two sides aimed at enhancing academic and research cooperation, exchanging experiences and joint scientific research, exchanging students and professors, and organizing joint conferences and seminars. At the end of the meeting, the delegation presented a souvenir to the University, and the President presented the University shield to His Excellency the Ambassador, the President of Nakhchivan University, and the Jordanian-Azerbaijani Friendship Association.
