A lecture in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities about the crescent of Shawwal according to astronomical data and calculations.

The Faculty of Arts and Humanities at the university organized a scientific lecture entitled "Shawwal Crescent (Eid Crescent) According to Astronomical Data and Calculations," presented by Professor Ali Al-Taani, Professor of Astrophysics at Al-Balqa Applied University, in the Prince Hassan bin Talal Amphitheater at the Faculty of Engineering.

Dr. Al-Taani, a member of the International Astronomical Union, the Arab Union for Space and Astronomy Sciences, and the Jordanian Astronomical Society, spoke about the precise astronomical calculations for investigating the crescent of the month of Shawwal for the year 1446 AH, explaining that the date of the investigation will coincide with Saturday, March 29.

During the lecture, he pointed out that jurists have urged learning astronomical calculations due to their importance in determining acts of worship, reviewing a number of Quranic verses that dealt with astronomical calculations and the moon's rotation around the Earth.

In the context of his speech, the lecturer wondered about the reason for seeing only one side of the moon, explaining that this is due to the synchronous movement of the moon resulting from its rotation around itself in conjunction with its rotation around the Earth. He also reviewed the phases of the moon, which begin with the new moon and end with the crescent, and touched on the position of the moon and its daily movements, explaining the relationship between the lunar calendar and the lunar year and the time it takes for the moon to orbit the Earth and the sun.

At the end of the lecture, which was presented and moderated by Professor Ayman Al-Taani, and attended by a number of faculty members and college students, Dr. Ayed Taran, Head of the Geography Department, presented a certificate of appreciation to the lecturer in appreciation of his efforts. An extensive discussion also took place, during which Dr. Al-Taani answered questions and inquiries from the attendees.
