Awareness lecture on the dangers of drugs at Al al-Bayt University
The Deanship of Student Affairs at Al al-Bayt University / Department of Cultural, Social, and Artistic Activity, in cooperation with the Anti-Narcotics Department in the Public Security Directorate, organized an awareness lecture entitled "The Scourge of Drugs and its Negative Effects," presented by the Head of the Anti-Narcotics Department in Mafraq Governorate, Major Raed Al-Bayaydah.
During the lecture, Major Al-Bayaydah affirmed that the Anti-Narcotics Department is working in full partnership with all state agencies in order to combat drugs and raise awareness of their dangers, within three main axes:
- The first axis: Operations, which includes the work of the department's divisions and patrols spread throughout the Kingdom.
- The second axis: Awareness of the dangers of abuse and addiction, through holding conferences, meetings, and workshops in cooperation with the local community and national institutions.
- The third axis: Treatment, where the department provides a treatment service for addicts in the Addiction Treatment Center, which is the only center in the Middle East specialized in treating drug addicts in a confidential and free manner and without any legal consequences.
Major Al-Bayaydah also reviewed the types of drugs, which include:
- Stimulant drugs
- Hallucinogenic drugs
- Depressant drugs
He explained that all of these types lead to damage to the addict's nervous system. He also explained the most prominent symptoms of abuse, including: sudden changes in behavior, violence, and isolation, stressing the role of the family in educating children about the dangers of drugs.
For his part, the Dean of Student Affairs, Professor Dr. Saif Al-Shbail, affirmed the importance of this lecture in educating young people about the scourge of drugs and their dangers, and providing them with the skills necessary to deal with negative phenomena in society.
The meeting was attended by the Head of the Community Police Branch in Mafraq Governorate, Captain Muhammad Al-Rousan, the Deputy Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Hayel Al-Sarhan, the Director of the Department of Cultural, Social, and Artistic Activity, Mr. Muhammad Basbous, and a number of university students and those interested.
