The Faculty of Law organizes a seminar on the protection of personal data.

Under the patronage of the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Professor Dr. Samer Al-Dallala, the Faculty of Law organized a seminar titled "Protection of Personal Data" in the auditorium of His Highness Prince Hassan bin Talal. Dr. Qassem Al-Aoun spoke at the seminar about the importance of protecting personal data, reviewing the Personal Data Protection Law and the stages it has gone through. He explained that the first phase included the publication of the law in the official gazette on 17/9/2023, while the second phase includes a period for compliance that extends from 17/3/2024 to 16/3/2025, after which the law will come into effect. Dr. Al-Aoun pointed to the scope of the law's application, indicating that it applies to all data, whether collected or processed before its effectiveness, with the exception of natural persons who process their data for personal purposes. He also discussed the details of establishing a council for the protection of personal data under the law, which will consist of 11 members: seven representatives from the public sector and four from the private sector, with a membership term of four years renewable once. At the end of the seminar, the penalties and sanctions related to personal data violations were addressed, which include administrative and financial penalties. The meeting was chaired by the Head of the Public Law Department, Dr. Muwafaq Al-Mahamid, with the presence of the faculty staff and students. The seminar concluded with a dialogue and an extensive discussion during which Dr. Al-Aoun answered questions from the attendees, including students and faculty members.
