Introductory lecture about the Synchrotron Center at the Faculty of Engineering at Al al-Bayt University.
The College of Engineering at Al al-Bayt University hosted the Commissioner for Nuclear Science and Applications, Dr. Firas Afana, who is also the head of the National Committee for the Synchrotron Center, to discuss synchrotron light in the presence of the Dean of the College of Engineering, Professor Moayed Shawagfeh, and the Dean of the College of Science, Professor Raed Banat. Dr. Afana spoke about the Synchrotron Center, which was established as the first global center of excellence for scientific research in the Middle East, resembling the European Organization for Nuclear Research, under the auspices of UNESCO, hosted by Jordan in the Balqa Governorate. The center's accelerator produces synchrotron light that will be used in scientific research, education, and training through several radiation beams, including X-rays, ultraviolet rays, and infrared rays. It provides scientific research services in the fields of physics, chemistry, biology, archaeology, environment, agriculture, engineering, pharmacy, medicine, and industry. The center also works on exchanging expertise and scientific collaboration between Jordanian researchers and researchers from member countries participating in the Middle East, as well as researchers at global synchrotron centers. It supports participation in conferences, seminars, and scientific and training workshops for synchrotron light users, both inside and outside Jordan. At the end of the lecture, which was attended by several deputies, assistants to the dean, and department heads, the speaker answered questions and inquiries from the audience.
