Al-Momani: Community Radios Are Effective Development Platforms.
Government Communication Minister and official spokesperson for the government Dr. Mohammed Al-Momani emphasized the importance of community radios as effective development platforms in local communities, contributing to addressing their challenges and highlighting their successes, especially in the governorates.
Al-Momani's remarks came during his meeting with several officials from community radios at the Government Communication Ministry today, Wednesday, as part of the ministry's periodic communication meetings with various sectors of the media community in the kingdom, aimed at discussing the national media landscape objectively and institutionally to address challenges and improve work.
Al-Momani confirmed that the goal of these meetings is to assess the reality of national media, elevate its status, and enhance its role, envisioning a hopeful future for it in the coming years, while clarifying distinct roles for all media segments, whether visual, audio, print, or digital, to achieve the desired objective of conveying the state's message and defending it in the various challenges it faces.
He noted that community radios are an essential part of the national media landscape, playing important roles in conveying the voices of local communities and their success stories, raising awareness and education, in addition to their significant national role in conveying local and developmental challenges, as well as the various pioneering success stories that enrich our communities.
Al-Momani also confirmed that the government respects the independence of national media and its right to seek information and convey facts professionally and objectively, stressing the government's readiness to enhance the smooth flow of information to the media and the public by strengthening the role of media spokespersons for ministries and government institutions, expanding the work of media departments and units in public institutions, and responding to questions and interventions from journalists through periodic press conferences held by the government after Cabinet meetings, or through press meetings conducted for ministers or officials to clarify and explain government decisions and plans to the public.
The minister listened to the comments and observations of community radio officials, which focused on expanding the broadcast area and some proposals related to regulations governing their work. They emphasized the importance of these periodic meetings that reflect the partnership between the Government Communication Ministry and national media, pointing out that community radios are developmental tools in the governorates that indicate developmental opportunities within them.
They expressed their desire to discuss the possibility of community radios obtaining advertising revenue solely to cover their operating expenses and to find solutions to the interference of frequencies from radios in other countries on their airwaves.
They also highlighted the importance of program exchange among community radios, specifying specialized programs for them, and enhancing government communication with the radios through media spokespersons for ministries and government institutions.
The university was represented in this meeting by the Director of Public Relations and Media and the Director of Al-Jamia Voice Radio, Nasser Al-Shbeil.
