A discussion seminar on women's participation in political life at Al al-Bayt University
The Vice President for Community Affairs and International Relations, Professor Dr. Hani Akhu Rashidah, sponsored the panel discussion held by the Center for Sustainable Development and Empowerment of Women in collaboration with the Independent Election Commission titled "Women's Participation in Political Life," attended by the Director of the Center for Sustainable Development and Empowerment of Women, Dr. Hatem Al-Masaeed, and Mr. Abdu Al-Nawaisah, Director of Operations and Field Support in the I Participate program at the university.
The seminar was opened by Dr. Abeer Dababneh, a member of the Board of Commissioners of the Independent Election Commission, who emphasized the role of the Commission in empowering Jordanian women and their participation in decision-making and engagement in political and party work, achieving the political vision of the Jordanian state.
Dababneh also reviewed the most prominent constitutional amendments and updates to the election and party laws and their role in empowering women and youth, which fundamentally empowers the entire Jordanian society.
Dr. Dababneh discussed the issues surrounding the importance of women's roles in decision-making and holding political positions, stressing the significant role that women now play in political life in Jordan. She added that the election law has provided women and youth with an unprecedented opportunity according to the new electoral law.
Dababneh indicated that the Commission has established a special unit for women's empowerment, aimed at integrating them into political life, participating in elections and parties, and actively contributing to public life in all fields, with the goal of their engagement in party and political work and their participation in elections on programmatic bases, leading to the formation of parliamentary governments.
Mr. Aws Qutishat, the technical advisor and project manager for the partnership with the Independent Election Commission, spoke about the role of women in the electoral process and their high participation rates in the I Participate program, as well as the increase in youth participation in elections. Qutishat added that empowering women and political participation reflects an absolute belief in the equality of men and women in all aspects of life, including social and political spheres.
The Director of the Center for Sustainable Development and Empowerment of Women, Dr. Hatem Al-Masaeed, pointed out that the center constantly strives to hold such important seminars, which provide students with complete knowledge of their electoral rights and effective participation, as political empowerment for women grants them the right to vote and engage in the political system after acquiring political knowledge, enabling them to represent governments locally and internationally.
At the end of the seminar, which was managed by Dr. Reem Al-Amoush and coordinated by Mrs. Hanan Al-Shudifat, head of the Community Development Division, with the I Participate office, the speakers answered students' questions and inquiries.
