Effect of Bending on Metasurface Antenna and Microstrip Patch Antenna Array
In this paper, the characteristics of two different
antenna types; metasurface antennas (MSA) and microstrip
patch antenna (MPA) array are analyzed. To compare their
sensitivity to bending, multiple numerical studies have been
performed on both designs at different curvatures. The footprint
of each design is 120 ? 90 mm2
. The dimension of designs are
optimized to operate in the Industrial, Scientific, and Medical
(ISM) band with a center frequency of 5.8 GHz. Simulation
results show that the reflection coefficient, the gain and the
efficiency of MPA array are more sensitive than that of MSA
for bending. The stability of reflection coefficients, radiation
efficiency and realized gain makes the MSA a superior candidate
for flexible and body-worn devices
