“Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship in Jordan: From Legislation to Developmental Impact”

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, His Excellency Mr. Mazen Al-Qadi, sponsored the Scientific Day organized by the Faculty of Business at Al al-Bayt University under the title: “Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship in Jordan: From Legislation to Developmental Impact.”
The event was held in cooperation with the Parliamentary Committee on Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship and the Afaaq Technology Team, with the participation of a distinguished group of specialists from both the public and private sectors.

The Scientific Day was held at the University’s Conference Center, in the presence of the President of Al al-Bayt University, Prof. Osama Nusier; the Dean of the Faculty of Business, Prof. Turki Al-Fawaz; along with several academics, experts, and decision-makers. The event comes within the university’s efforts to analyze the reality of the digital economy and entrepreneurship in Jordan and highlight the associated challenges and opportunities.

In his opening remarks, the Speaker of the House emphasized that the Parliament attaches great importance to this Scientific Day and its outcomes. He noted that a mechanism has been established to follow up on the recommendations, which will be considered in the development of legislation supporting the digital economy. He also stressed Parliament’s commitment to providing a stimulating legal environment for the digital economy and entrepreneurship, in a manner that positively contributes to economic development and job creation.

On the sidelines of the event, University President Prof. Osama Nusier stated—in an interview with Jordan Television—that Al al-Bayt University plays a pivotal role in supporting public policies related to the digital economy, and in aligning the outcomes of higher education with the Royal Vision and directives of His Majesty and His Royal Highness the Crown Prince, with the aim of achieving tangible developmental impact. He reaffirmed the university’s commitment to active partnerships with state institutions to serve comprehensive development issues and enhance scientific research and practical application in this vital field.

For his part, MP Dr. Mu’ayyad Al-Alawneh, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, referred to the Royal directives and the Crown Prince’s follow-up through the national vision and comprehensive frameworks for keeping pace with industrial advancement. He emphasized the importance of Jordanian human capital, a supportive environment, and sustainability in advancing digital transformation.

The Dean of the Faculty of Business, Prof. Turki Al-Fawaz, stressed that the partnership with the Parliamentary Committee is not merely protocol-based but a functional and responsible partnership aimed at serving the nation. He added that the digital economy represents a real tool for addressing major issues, most notably youth unemployment, reducing developmental disparities between governorates, enhancing public-sector efficiency, and improving service quality. He noted that achieving this requires flexible legislation, smart policies, modern higher education, and an enabling environment for innovation and entrepreneurship.

Chair of the Afaaq Technology Team, student Adnan Qazan, stated that the team believes genuine youth work is measured by action, not words, and by impactful initiatives, not slogans. He affirmed that digital transformation and the knowledge economy form the foundation of Jordan’s future, and that youth represent the nation’s foremost asset.

The Scientific Day, held over two sessions, addressed key issues related to the digital economy and entrepreneurship in Jordan, targeting decision-makers in public institutions, academia, and the private sector. Discussions focused on the current state of the digital economy and ways to develop legislation and policies to achieve concrete economic growth in light of rapid global transformations. It emphasized that the digital economy and entrepreneurship are essential pillars of sustainable growth, and that shifting from strategy formulation to delivering developmental impact is a national necessity.​​​
