Argumentation of the Representational Style
"Examplification" is one of the most important styles on which argumentation and persuasion have been based ever since Aristotle, old Arabic rhetoric and philosophy (especially the one interested in the explanation of Aristotle's books and in the contemporary new rhetoric.) The kind of "examplification" Muslims used in their writings is what Aristotle called as "demonstration by examples". The latter refers to every argumentation based on similarity between things. It is used in discovery as well as in persuasion and demonstration. The conclusion drawn from "demonstration by examples" is almost absolute because it is argumentative and persuasive. Argumentative method is what distinguishes science. Philosophers and rhetoricians adopted it in their writings because it uses what is known to the addressee to explain what is unknown to him by measuring the second against the first. By so doing, the unknown gets fixed in the addressee's mind. It is an efficient stylistic means to communicate information to the receiver and reduce distance with the speaker. This facilitates his persuasion. Given the importance of this style in communication, argumentation, knowledge production and its making closer to the receiver and its capacity to bring truth and belief to him, we will approach it from philosophical and rhetorical perspectives. This will help us to understand how it works and persuades. Key words : Examplification , argumentation , persuasion, Aristotle , Arabic rhetoric , Philosophers Muslims, new rhetoric.
