X-Ray Computed Tomography for Additive Manufacturing
X-ray computed tomography (XCT) is a 3D imaging technique that has been increasingly applied as a non-destructive testing method for characterizing and evaluating various materials at different levels of scale. Additive manufacturing (AM) is the process of fabricating wide range of structures and complex geometries using 3D computer-aided design (CAD) model data. The using of XCT for inspection and verifying of AM parts has become increasingly important in various fields such as engineering and medicine. This paper presents the benefits of using XCT in AM technology. According to the literature, there are two main areas for using XCT and AM: dimensional measurements and defects detection. This study shows the importance of conducting continuous researches for increasing the use and exploiting the benefits provided by the adoption of XCT in AM.
