A discussion workshop on nutrition in Ramadan

The Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences, in cooperation with the Faculty of Sharia, holds a discussion workshop on nutrition in Ramadan.


The Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences at Al al-Bayt University, in cooperation with the Faculty of Sharia, held a discussion workshop entitled "Nutrition in Ramadan between Science and Religion."


Professor Bakr Bani Arshid from the Faculty of Sharia explained the importance and sanctity of the blessed month of Ramadan, as it is the only month mentioned by name in the Holy Quran due to its great importance. He stressed that Muslims should take advantage of its blessed days by refraining from forbidden foods and drinks, as well as forbidden actions and words. He added that God Almighty has ordained Zakat al-Fitr in Ramadan to enhance social solidarity and strengthen the relationship with God Almighty.


For her part, Dr. Ghadeer Othman from the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics stressed the importance of healthy nutrition in the month of Ramadan to achieve maximum health benefits from fasting, moving the body from the stage of benefiting from food to the stage of breaking down stored energy in the form of fat, and lowering insulin levels, which is positively reflected on the health of the body. She also explained the foods that are recommended to avoid in Ramadan, and those that enhance energy levels during the day and are preferred in the Suhoor meal.


Assistant Dean of the College, Dr. Sanaa Jaraydeh, explained that fasting is a therapeutic and nutritional approach that promotes women's health, helps prevent diseases, improves reproductive health and fertility, and reduces the symptoms of polycystic ovaries, in addition to reducing the supply of cancer cells with food and blood. She presented a number of nutritional tips for pregnant and breastfeeding women during the month of Ramadan to ensure the maintenance of physical and health activity during fasting.


At the conclusion of the workshop, which was moderated by the Head of the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, Dr. Zaher Bashabsheh, and attended by the Dean of the College, Professor Muhammad Nazzal, faculty members and students, an extensive discussion took place on the themes of the workshop.
