In the presence of the European Union ambassador, faculty members representing Al al-Bayt University at the Erasmus+ program's science day.
The National Erasmus+ Office at Jordan University of Science and Technology organized the scientific day of the "Erasmus+" program for the Northern Region, in the presence of His Excellency Ambassador Pierre-Christophe Chatzivasiliou, the European Union Ambassador to Jordan, and His Excellency Professor Dr. Mahmoud Al-Shiyab, former Minister of Health and head of the higher education development team in Jordan.
The event was attended by Ms. Marie Hoervers, representative of the European Union delegation, Professor Dr. Ahmed Abu Al-Haija, Director of the National Erasmus+ Office, Professor Dr. Abeer Al-Bawab, Dr. Ghadeer Al-Shaaban, Engineer Asmaa Al-Smadi, and Ms. Tasneem Al-Tall from the National Erasmus+ Office, in addition to a number of representatives from Jordanian universities, especially Al al-Bayt University, which was represented by a group of professors from various scientific and humanities faculties. The participants included Dr. Tariq Arar from the Faculty of Foreign Languages, Dr. Habes Al-Khawaldeh and Dr. Muhammad Al-Smiran from the Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Marwan Al-Shibli, Dr. Zaher Al-Bashabsheh, Dr. Sanaa Al-Jrayedah, Dr. Laith Al-Badarneh, and Dr. Munsif Sidqa from the Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences, who made effective contributions during the meeting. They also presented concrete scientific and research ideas to develop and implement them in the future in cooperation with European Union institutions.
In his opening speech, Professor Dr. Khaled Al-Salem welcomed the attendees, and emphasized the importance of benefiting from the European Union programs in building capabilities, exchanging students and researchers, and supporting innovation.
Al-Salem said: "The Erasmus+ program represents an active bridge for communication between Jordanian universities and their counterparts in Europe, and a source of inspiration for students to broaden their horizons and gain international experiences that contribute to developing their skills and empowering them in the global labor market."
For his part, His Excellency Ambassador Pierre-Christophe Chatzivasiliou affirmed that the Erasmus+ program plays a pivotal role in supporting international cooperation and expanding educational opportunities, pointing out that the program is not limited to academic exchange only, but also contributes to enhancing cultural understanding and exchanging best practices between educational institutions.
Professor Dr. Ahmed Abu Al-Haija pointed out that the Erasmus+ program has brought about a tangible transformation in the Jordanian higher education sector in recent years, as about 8,000 students and faculty members have benefited from academic mobility opportunities, and contributed to the development of curricula and teaching methods and the establishment of international partnerships through more than 185 capacity-building projects.
The event included introductory sessions dealing with mechanisms for applying for capacity-building projects and academic exchange programs, and success stories were presented from Jordanian universities that benefited from "Erasmus+" projects, in addition to panel discussions between representatives of the participating universities to explore opportunities for cooperation. The higher education priorities for 2025 within the Erasmus+ program were also presented.
