The Deanship of Student Affairs at the university, in cooperation with the Public Security Directorate, represented by the Criminal Investigation Department, and through the Department of Cultural, Social and Artistic Activities, organized an awareness lecture entitled "Awareness of Electronic Crimes," in the hall of the Conference and Activities Building at the university, in the presence of the Dean of Student Affairs, Professor Dr. Saif Al-Shbeil.
During his opening of the lecture, Dr. Al-Shbeil stressed that the university, out of its social responsibility, seeks to educate its students about the dangers of electronic crimes and ways to combat them. He also pointed out that this lecture comes within a participatory approach with official institutions, represented by the Public Security Directorate, with the aim of highlighting the importance of this issue, and providing advice, guidance and direction to students to preserve individuals and institutions in society. He also thanked the Public Security Directorate, represented by Major Dr. Abdullah Khashashneh, Head of the Northern Criminal Investigation Department, for their cooperation in the success of this event.
During the lecture, Lieutenant Salim Al-Malikawi, from the Criminal Investigation Department, presented a detailed explanation of the types of electronic crimes, where he defined electronic piracy, social media crimes, electronic fraud, and financial blackmail cases. He also touched on the risks associated with publications, messages, awards, and fake links, and ways to lure victims. He explained the reality of electronic crimes in Jordan, and the technologies used in computer and mobile phone crimes, stressing the importance of complete confidentiality in dealing with these issues.
For his part, the Vice Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Hayel Al-Sarhan, stressed the importance of educating university students about the seriousness of electronic crimes and their negative impact on individuals and societies, especially in light of the rapid spread of social media.
At the conclusion of the lecture, which was attended by the Director of the Department of Cultural, Social and Artistic Activities, Mr. Muhammad Basbous, and a number of university students, the discussion was opened, where Lieutenant Al-Malikawi answered students' questions and inquiries about electronic crimes and mechanisms to combat them.
