Al al-Bayt University participates in a workshop on avoiding the risks of structural collapses.

.
Al al-Bayt University participated in a specialized workshop organized by the Jordanian Engineers Association, under the title "Avoiding Collapse Risks in Existing Structures," which was held at the Professional Associations Complex in Shmeisani, under the patronage of the Jordanian Engineers Association's President, Engineer Ahmad Samara Al-Zoubi.

The workshop focused on assessing the causes of building collapses and establishing practical measures to mitigate their risks, in addition to the legal aspects of protecting citizens and workers in the construction sector.

Dr. Lamia Amoush, Assistant Director of the Risk Analysis Modeling and Simulation Center, represented the university at the workshop, alongside wide participation from representatives of government and private entities, emphasizing the importance of concerted efforts to ensure the safety of structures and enhance construction safety standards in Jordan.

Recommendations to Enhance Building Safety

The workshop concluded with several recommendations, most notably:
• Mandating older buildings to undergo a periodic assessment every five years to ensure their load-bearing capacity.
• Including a specific code for concrete for soil-supported buildings to enhance their durability, along with preparing a guiding booklet that includes practical examples to facilitate its application by engineers.
• Conducting field surveys to identify "hot spots" that contain old buildings at risk, especially those over 50 years old.

Participants in the workshop confirmed that these recommendations will be presented to the association's council and relevant authorities for follow-up on their implementation, contributing to enhancing the safety of structures and protecting lives and property.
