Lecture on the Sustainable Development Goals in Jordan at Al al-Bayt University
The Center for Sustainable Development and Women's Empowerment at Al-Bayt University hosted the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation representative Rasha Dabbouri to discuss the efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals in Jordan, with the presence of the center's director, Dr. Hatim Al-Masaeed.
Rasha Dabbouri, head of the Sustainable Development Department, emphasized that the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation plays a crucial role in contributing to the development of the Kingdom's economic policy, setting long-term national visions, and developing its executive programs through a participatory consultative approach with all actors in the development process from the public and private sectors, civil society, and development partners.
She reviewed the ministry’s goals and plans for sustainable development, which include eradicating poverty and hunger, ensuring quality education and health for all, enhancing social justice, economic growth, and developing infrastructure and cities to be inclusive, safe, and sustainable.
She added that the Sustainable Development Goals also include maintaining the balance of climate and environment by combating desertification and sustainably managing forests to ensure them for future generations.
She also highlighted the main challenges facing the achievement of these goals, including limited resources, particularly water and energy, the prevalence of conflicts and wars, and the resulting displacement that puts pressure on services and resources.
At the end of the lecture, which was moderated by Dr. Saleh Al-Zyoud from the Center of Excellence for Innovation, the lecturer answered students' questions and inquiries under the supervision of Hanin Shudifat, head of the Community Development Department.
