Al al-Bayt University, in collaboration with the Anti-Narcotics Department of the General Security Directorate, organized an awareness workshop for the university's female staff titled "Allies in the Fight Against Drugs," presented by Major Raed Al-Bayyadah, head of the Anti-Narcotics Department in Mafraq. The workshop was attended by the university's Vice President for Community Affairs and International Relations, Professor Dr. Hani Akho Arshidah, the Director of Human Resources Department Wael Shaddad, and the Director of the Public Relations Department Nasser Al-Shubail.
Akho Arshidah pointed out that the university adopts an educational and cultural message towards its staff as part of its responsibilities and vision to protect society from drugs and their negative effects, emphasizing that drug abuse is one of the most significant problems threatening human communities.
For his part, Major Al-Bayyadah indicated that Jordan enjoys security and safety and that the General Security Directorate, represented by the Anti-Narcotics Department and under royal directives, employs the latest methods to combat this scourge. He explained that the Anti-Narcotics Department works in complete partnership with all state agencies to combat drugs and raise awareness of their dangers.
Al-Bayyadah clarified that the Anti-Narcotics Department operates on three fronts: the operational front through its departments and patrols dispersed throughout the kingdom; the awareness front about the dangers of drug use and addiction through conferences, meetings, and workshops with the local community and national institutions; and the treatment front, where the department provides treatment services for users at the Drug Addiction Treatment Center, the only one in the Middle East specializing in treating drug users in a confidential, free manner without legal repercussions.
Major Al-Bayyadah reviewed the types of drugs, which fall under three categories: stimulants, hallucinogens, and depressants, all of which damage the user's nervous system. He also discussed the symptoms of drug use, the most prominent being abrupt changes in the user's behavior, violence, and isolation, stressing the family’s role in educating children about the dangers of drugs.
The Director of the Human Resources Department, Wael Shaddad, confirmed the importance of this workshop in raising awareness among the Al al-Bayt University staff about the drug epidemic and its dangers and equipping them with skills to deal with negative phenomena in society.
At the end of the workshop, Akho Arshidah and Major Al-Bayyadah presented certificates of appreciation to the university staff participants, where samples of various types of drugs were displayed.
