The police chief of Mafraq Governorate gives a lecture at Al al-Bayt University.

Under the patronage of the university president, Professor Dr. Osama Nusair, the Dean of Student Affairs at Al-Bayt University hosted the Director of the Mafraq Governorate Police, Brigadier General Mohammad Al-Rawashdeh, and the head of the traffic department in Mafraq, Captain Mohammad Wreikat, to discuss traffic awareness and road accidents.

Brigadier General Al-Rawashdeh emphasized that a significant portion of traffic accidents is due to driver violations, non-compliance with traffic rules and priorities, and the use of mobile phones while driving. He pointed out that the new traffic law issued in 2023 has increased penalties for offenders.

He added that the Public Security Directorate is working on an awareness initiative by intensifying efforts to hold awareness lectures for students and citizens while also focusing on operational measures to regulate traffic and apprehend violators, stressing that regular vehicle inspections help reduce traffic accidents.

He also mentioned that such meetings provide an opportunity for students and youth, who are the country’s future, to engage in dialogue and promote a culture of adherence to traffic regulations, which in turn helps decrease road accidents.

Captain Mohammad Wreikat, head of the traffic department in Mafraq, stated that traffic awareness begins at home and that the safety of citizens is more important than issuing fines. Therefore, raising awareness of the importance of following traffic laws positively impacts the reduction of road accidents, which have led to 31,337 traffic violations in Mafraq since the beginning of this year, resulting in 1,581 accidents and 14 fatalities.

He added that the traffic management has resorted to holding such awareness meetings, especially in universities, to make citizens partners in reducing accidents and achieving tangible positive results.

The Dean of Student Affairs, Professor Dr. Saif Al-Shubeil, highlighted the importance of collaborating with the Mafraq Police Directorate and the traffic department to spread traffic culture among students and the local community.

At the end of the meeting, which was attended by the head of the City Security Center, Major Ahmad Abu Ghanem, the head of the community police branch in Mafraq, Captain Fouad Shdeifat, several officers and personnel from the Mafraq Police Directorate, the Deputy Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Hael Al-Sarhan, and Assistant Dean Mohammad Basbous, along with a large number of university students, an extensive discussion took place where the speakers answered students' questions and inquiries.
