About the Department
Welcome to the homepage of the Department of Earth Sciences at Al al-Bayt University. The Department of Earth Sciences offers a research-based Master's program (thesis and comprehensive tracks). The department has approximately 200 undergraduate students and 25 graduate students for the 2022/2023 academic year. It is estimated that students will have 132 active credits upon graduation and 33 active credits upon graduation. The department's faculty includes 10 highly qualified professors holding PhDs in Earth Sciences. We have also acquired advanced technology from the University of Texas and four state-of-the-art laboratories.
Given the importance of the topics covered in this specialization and their direct impact on humanity, this program is distinguished by its emphasis on practical and applied learning. The program aims to train and qualify students for various environmental and geological fields, working with the geology and environment of Jordan during the laboratory phase. The department is also nearing completion of several scientific laboratories. The department includes the Patrick Laboratory and Mineral Optics, the New York Engineering and Soil Laboratory, the Hydrochemistry and Geochemistry Laboratory, the Geophysics Laboratory, and a rock workshop. Among the scientific equipment available are optical and digital microscopes, electromagnetic and magnetic scanning instruments, a photometer and a flame meter, micro- and bio-oxygen demand meters, a deep-sea acoustic frequencies spectrometer, and a grain size analyzer.
Therefore, the Earth Sciences program at Al al-Bayt University is considered an applied program, focusing on the following core subjects: industrial minerals and rocks, geochemistry, basic optical structures, geophysics, surface and groundwater sciences, environmental sciences, and stratigraphy and fossils.
