Competency-basededucationthatreliesonnurses?andhealthcareprofessionals?needsassessmentiscrucialtotacklinghealthcarecrisessuchasCOVID-19.Strengtheningthecapacitiesofhumanresourcesbyimple-mentingcustomizedinfectioncontroltrainingprogramsisthereforemandatory.ThisstudyaimstomeasuretheeffectivenessandsatisfactionoftheCompetencyOutcomesandPerformanceAssessment(COPA)-basedtrainingprogram.Thestudyimplementedasinglegrouppretest-posttestexperimentaldesign.Asingle-stageclustersamplingtechniquewasused.AllfieldhospitalsinJordanwerelisted,andonehospitalwasran-domlyselected.Atotalof87personnelfromdifferentdisciplinesagreedtoparticipateafterreadingtheletterofinformationandsigningtheinformedconsent.Apanelofexpertsrepresentingdifferentdisciplinesandhospitalunitsinitiallymetandagreeduponalistofcompetenciesrequiredforthetrainingprogram,andtheprogramwasaccordinglydeveloped.Thestudymeasuredthehealthcareprofessionals?competenciesininfectioncontrolandpreventionbeforeandaftertheadministrationofthecompetency-basedtrainingpro-gram.Theresultsrevealedsignificantdifferencesbetweenparticipants?pretestandposttestscoresinallinfectioncontroldomainsandthetotalscores.Forexample,theincreaseinparticipants?totalcompetencyscoresafterthetrainingwasstatisticallysignificant(P<0.007).Themeantotalsatisfactionscorewas61.18+7.00reflectingthattheparticipantswerehighlysatisfiedwiththeprovidedtraining.Inconclusion,itisimperativetoprovidehealthcareprofessionalswithadequateclinicaltrainingtoensurethathealthcareservicesaregoingtobedeliveredinthehighestpossiblequalityandminimizethepossibleadverseevents.
