The Computer Science Department was established at the beginning of the 1995 academic year within the College of Arts and Sciences to support development efforts in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan by preparing graduates capable of keeping pace with the latest advancements in computer science. Following the establishment of the Prince Al-Hussein Bin Abdullah College of Information Technology, the Computer Science Department was transferred in 2001 to join the Information Systems Department, forming the core of the new college. This transition aimed to keep up with developments in information technology, apply them practically, and prepare students to specialize in this vital field, contributing to sectors in Jordan that require this essential expertise.
The department offers three bachelor's degree programs (Computer Science, Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, and Cybersecurity) and one master's degree program (Computer Science). The department seeks to introduce new programs in computer science applications and define graduate qualifications in line with labor market demands at both the bachelor's and master's levels.
