The Department of Chemistry started its journey as a part of the college of Sciences and Arts at the early stages, when the university of Al-albayt was established by a Royal decree in 1994. It was started with limited facilities and a few number of students in which the teaching and research laboratories have been well equipped. The department offers the traditional sequence of undergraduate chemistry courses including the major disciplines of Organic, Inorganic, Physical and Analytical, in addition to Applied Chemistry. The B.Sc. in Chemistry is awarded to the student after the successful completion of (132) credit hours.
The Department offers a research-based Masters degree (requiring thesis) in any of the four traditional areas of chemistry (Organic, Inorganic, Physical and Analytical).
The department serves the demand of several local industries, in particular, the pharmaceutical industries by providing good chemists, and many graduates have the ability to teach chemical sciences at all levels at schools.
