The Range of Using Technology by Visually Impaired Persons in Reading and Writing in Jordan

The study aimed at identifying the types of technology which are used by visually impaired persons in reading and writing . Also identifying the barriers that face using technology , and identifying the strategies which help in increasing the use of these technologies .The sample of the study consisted of (65) visually impaired persons. The results of the study revealed the following : 1-The most used type of technology by persons who have low vision were eyeglasses ,zoom-text programs , closed circuit television , and classroom TV systems , while the most used types of technology by blind persons were recorders and cassette tapes , a Perkins Braille machine , and slate and stylus . 2-The barriers that face the use of technology were the high cost of technology , the lack of fund , and the difficulties of access to these technologies . 3-The suggested strategies which helped in increasing the use of these technologies were counseling , supporting in fund , and training .
