The Effectiveness of Group Guidance Program to Life Skills Development A Semi-Experimental Study on A Sample of Secondary School Students in the Governate of Irbid, Jordan
The aim of this study was to investigate the Effectiveness of group guidance program to life skills development and investigating its effect on improving optimism Expectancy and Reduction of depression of male students in secondary stages. The population of the study consisted of all male students in secondary stages in bait-edis school, in irbid , there were (110) students who were divided into 2 groups: experimental and control . The sample of the study consisted of (40) students who obtained a low score on the scale of life orientation test , and high score on the scale of depression, The sample of the study was randomly assigned into 2 groups, the experimental group consisted of (20) students who received group guidance program in order to improving the optimism Expectancy and Reduction of depression. The duration of the program lasted (5) weeks with the average of two sessions per week; and each session lasted for (45) minutes. Pre and post test measures were applied for optimism Expectancy to determine the level of improvement in optimism Expectancy, a pre and post test measures were applied for depression to determine the level of improvement in the reduction of depression. (ANOVA) was used to find the effect of the treatment on the level of optimism and depression. The results of the study showed significant differences between the experimental group which received group guidance program and the control group in all of the dependent variables. The results of the study show that group guidance program were effective in, improving optimism Expectancy and Reduction of depression.
