The effect of using poetry in teaching science in the achievement among the 1st grade students in Jordan
This study aimed at finding out the effect of using poetry in teaching science in the achievement of the first primary grade students in Jordan. The subjects of the study consisted of 40 male and female students from the 1st grade from Mafraq/Jordan in the academic year 2010/2011, which were divided into two groups: experimental group which was taught using poetry during teaching, and the control group which learned in the traditional method. To achieve the objectives of the study, A valid and reliable achievement test was distributed on the two groups at the end of the treatment. The results showed statistically significant differences in the students' achievement in science due to the method of teaching, and in favor of the experimental group which learned by using poetry. Also the results showed by calculating (?2) that the effect size for the use of poetry during the teaching of science was great. The study recommended a number of recommendations, including: Call of science teachers to use the poetry during the teaching of science, and invite those who design science textbooks for the employment of the poetry in the content of these textbooks
