Dr. Reem Al-Zoubi Participates in the Third Forum of the Arab Cities Cultural Work Group at the Greater Amman Municipality

On behalf of the Mayor of Greater Amman, Dr. Yousef Al-Shawarbeh, his deputy, Muhammad Rasmi Al-Qaisi, inaugurated the Third Arabic Language Forum under the title "Our Arabic Language on the Slopes of Amman’s Mountains." The forum was organized by the Arab Cities Cultural Work Group on the occasion of Arabic Language Day.

The forum, held at Al-Hussein Cultural Center in conjunction with Arabic Language Day on December 18 each year, aims to highlight the importance of the Arabic language in cultural and scientific fields as an integral part of our cultural heritage. It also seeks to enhance its status, revive and preserve it, and encourage its use while showcasing it as a dynamic and evolving language that keeps pace with development and creativity.

Dr. Manal Al-Abdallat, Director-General of the Arab Cities Cultural Work Group, appreciated the role of the Greater Amman Municipality in supporting cultural and creative work.

She emphasized that the Arabic language is a fundamental component of civilization and a key to human knowledge. It surpasses other languages in its sacredness and religious symbolism, serving as a language of science and work. She noted that the global scientific renaissance would not have flourished without the contributions of Arab scholars in translating sciences and establishing the foundations of scientific research.

She further stated that the rapid digital advancement and the infiltration of technology into all aspects of life, in ways that traditional knowledge methods cannot keep up with, pose a serious crisis threatening our civilizational heritage and rich history. Therefore, it is imperative to keep pace with technological progress while ensuring that the future of the nation remains connected to its past, culture, and authentic values. She added that achieving a true renaissance requires preserving the Arabic language in a manner that accommodates the accelerating technological developments.

Al-Abdallat also pointed out that prioritizing the Arabic language and enhancing its status are at the forefront of the Hashemite leadership’s concerns. His Royal Highness, the Crown Prince, has been a pioneer in promoting Arabic as a global language, ensuring its digital empowerment, and enriching Arabic content on the internet through the “Language of Al-Dhad” initiative.

The forum hosted a distinguished group of experts, intellectuals, writers, and specialists to discuss the significance of language, culture, and identity in strengthening national values, supporting efforts to promote Arab culture, and solidifying the Arabic language’s position among global languages.

The forum’s sessions featured several research papers, starting with a presentation by Dr. Samir Istaitieh titled "The Impact of Communicative Linguistics in Unifying the Arabic Language in Arab Cities." This was followed by a paper by Dr. Muhammad Ali Yaghan on "Arabic Writing in Vertical Script."

Additionally, Dr. Salem Daham from the Ministry of Culture presented a paper on "Language and Identity," while Dr. Reem Al-Zoubi discussed "The Role of Media in Preserving the Arabic Language." The forum concluded with a presentation by Dr. Muhammad Wasif, Assistant President of the University of Jordan for Cultural Affairs, on "The Sung Arabic Poem."

At the end of the discussions, Al-Qaisi presented honorary shields to the participants in recognition of their contributions to promoting the Arabic language.

On the sidelines of the forum, an art exhibition was held, showcasing paintings written in vertical Arabic script, highlighting the beauty and elegance of Arabic calligraphy.

It is worth mentioning that the Arab Cities Cultural Work Group is an organization affiliated with the Organization of Arab Cities. It is headquartered in Amman and enjoys the support and patronage of the Greater Amman Municipality.
