Department of History in the Faculty of Arts Organizes a Scientific Trip to "Umm al-Jimal" and "Jawa Dam"
The Department of Islamic History at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at Al al-Bayt University organized on Thursday, November 20, 2025, a scientific field trip for the department's students to two archaeological sites, among the most prominent archaeological sites in the Mafraq Governorate, namely the ancient historical city of Umm al-Jimal, and the Jawa Dam site, which is one of the oldest dams in the world.
The scientific trip departed from the campus of Al al-Bayt University in the city of Mafraq, heading to the two visited sites, in order to enhance field education, link theoretical knowledge with applied study, and in line with the mission of the Faculty of Arts and its vision in establishing cultural identity, deepening students' understanding of the historical and archaeological heritage in Jordan, and enriching their knowledge of the civilizations that arose in the region.
It is obvious what these scientific activities have of a role in providing students with direct experience in studying antiquities and historical monuments, building their research and analysis skills, and strengthening their connection to national heritage sites.
The professors and students expressed their thanks to the university administration for its continuous support of student scientific activities, and for giving their students the opportunity to visit these important sites.
The scientific trip was supervised by Dr. Khader Al-Sarhan, Head of the Department of Islamic History, and Dr. Anas Al-Amoush, from the Department of History, who provided the necessary scientific explanations at the visited sites, and contributed to clarifying their civilizational and historical importance.
