The Faculty of Foreign Languages at Al al-Bayt University celebrates the Week of the Italian Language in the World.

The Faculty of Foreign Languages at Al al-Bayt University organized a scientific day celebrating the 25th edition of the Italian Language Week in the World, under the theme "Italophonia: A Language that Transcends Borders."


The Deputy Dean of the Faculty, Dr. Muhammad Salem Al-Mustafa, delivered an opening speech on behalf of the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Al-Khatib, in which he affirmed that the Italian Language Week in the World aims to promote cultural dialogue between peoples and that the Faculty of Foreign Languages ​​participates in this celebration to introduce its students to the masterpieces of Italian literature, the legacy of the Renaissance, music, and the arts. This scientific day confirms Al al-Bayt University's belief in the importance of openness to global cultures, understanding others, and strengthening relations with friendly countries, as learning different languages ​​opens up wide horizons for university students in the local and international labor market.


The Head of the Italian Language Department, Dr. Saber Mahmoud Abdel-Muttaleb, affirmed that the college's participation in the Italian Language Week - which is held in the third week of October of each year - aims to spread and promote the Italian language, consolidate the developing relations between Jordan and Italy that have existed for decades, and increase scientific and cultural exchange between Al al-Bayt University and Italian universities.


Dr. Ida Plastina from the Cultural Office of the Italian Embassy also delivered a welcoming speech on behalf of the Italian Ambassador to Jordan, Dr. Luciano Pezzotti, in which she affirmed the depth of relations between the two countries, which were reflected in the promotion of student exchange between Al al-Bayt University and Italian universities.


The Deputy Dean of the Faculty, Dr. Muhammad Salem Al-Mustafa, honored student Yara Saada, who won first place in the "Issa Al-Naouri" Literary Translation Award, which was organized by the Italian Embassy in cooperation with the Dante Alighieri Society in Amman as part of the celebration of Italian Language Week for the year 2025.


For her part, Dr. Serena Bernardi from the Dante Alighieri Society presented a detailed presentation on the PLIDA international certificates in the Italian language, which are certificates accredited by the Italian government that prove proficiency in the Italian language as a foreign language, and are issued by the Dante Alighieri Society, where the certificates are divided into six levels and are necessary for students, immigrants and professionals.


Dr. Shireen Salameh from Al al-Bayt University explained in her speech "Italian and Jordanian Arabic: Influences and Communication between Cultures" that there is a strong mutual influence between the Jordanian and Italian languages, as there are many common words in the Jordanian and Italian linguistic inventory.


Dr. Ida Plastina, a lecturer in the Italian Language Department at the university, also gave a speech on "Technology and Foreign Languages: Challenges of the Italian Language in the New Millennium."


The celebration witnessed distinguished participation from students of the Italian Language Department, where the segments of the day were presented in Italian and Arabic by students Sarah Al-Najjar and Taqwa Douhel. A collection of short videos prepared by the department's students and translated into Arabic by student Abdul Rahman Al-Khawaldeh was also presented. Students Rahaf Al-Bairaqdar and Yara Saada gave an introductory presentation on the civilization of ancient Rome, the genius of Roman engineering, and ancient architecture.


The scientific day of the Faculty of Foreign Languages ​​was attended by the Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Ahmed Alimat, and a number of faculty members, students, and interested people.
