Dr. Reem Al-Zoubi Delivers an Awareness Seminar on Virtual World Ethics at the Ministry of Government Communication

The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Government Communication, Dr. Zaid Al-Nawaiseh, affirmed that focusing on media and information literacy reflects a commitment to enhancing knowledge and awareness in dealing with media and information.

Speaking at a seminar organized by the ministry on media and information literacy, he emphasized the ministry’s commitment to spreading awareness through the organization of seminars and training programs for employees of ministries and government institutions.

Dr. Al-Nawaiseh stated, "We live in an era where media content flows at an unprecedented speed, making it essential to acquire the necessary skills to analyze information, verify its accuracy, and engage with it intelligently. This seminar is part of our efforts to equip individuals with the skills that contribute to enhancing societal awareness in this field."

He further highlighted that Jordan was among the first Arab countries to adopt a comprehensive national strategy for promoting media and information literacy, positioning it as a pioneering model in the region. This commitment has been reflected in academic and training programs, where media and information literacy concepts have become an integral part of educational curricula.

Dr. Al-Nawaiseh also noted that Jordan hosted the 2024 Global Media and Information Literacy Week Conference, which witnessed broad international participation and resulted in the launch of the "Amman Declaration". This declaration calls for enhanced regional cooperation in media and information literacy, along with increased support and funding for this vital field.

He emphasized that media literacy is a fundamental tool for fostering critical thinking, combating misinformation, and building a more informed society, highlighting the importance of knowledge exchange and best practices in this field.

For her part, Dr. Reem Al-Zoubi, a professor of media literacy at Al al-Bayt University, emphasized that media literacy is a core competency that enables citizens to effectively engage with and produce media content. She underscored the importance of developing critical thinking skills and communication abilities, aiming to enhance digital skills, raise awareness of media-related risks, foster critical analysis, and promote social and media responsibility.
