The Patterns of Place in ?The Five Senses? Ladies ?Novel, By Jalal Berjis An Analytical Study

Abstract This study addressed the patterns of place in ?The Five Senses? Ladies? novel, by the Jordanian novelist Jalal Berjis, and analyzed various patterns of place in the novel based on Descriptive Analytical Method to aim at achieving two main goals; firstly, to introduce a brief explanation of novel?s textual vision in addition to the patterns of the set of place in literary criticism, and secondly, analyzing the pattern of place in the novel such as; the original place, the momentary place, and the central place, in addition to paradoxical patterns of place such as: the realistic and imaginative place, the opened and closed place, and the friendly and aggressive place, identifying these places and restricting them, and attributing places narrative location to characters and time in pushing forward the narration with a cover of various connotative codes. The study concluded to a set of results, most notably that the novel was distinguished by its visionary textual depth, and also place plays a very significant role CRITICISM cretinism as it?s considered one of the most important sides which narration depends on. It gives the incidents factual and realistic features which make understanding easier, and it also foreshadows the characters as well because of character adaptation with place; and thus influence becomes mutual. The analysis also revealed the uniqueness of the novel as it employs the various patterns of place with self-esteem purpose, shaped in special philosophies. The novelist managed to employ these places with all its? realistic codes in the minds of people in summing up expressional illustration of characters? culture such as; the Boulevard and Gallery which are places attributed to rich and educated people. Such places have their direct influence on the characters of the novel, which caused narration a tough time, made it become more complicated, and fueled conflict towards climax then solution.
