The Omani Studies Unit at Al al-Bayt University/Jordan has been founded in 1998. It was incorporated under the grant and patronage of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said of Oman. The Unit is supervised by Omani authorities namely the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs / Office of Ifta’a.
The Omani Studies Unit at Al al-Bayt University/Jordan is among the most active institutes in the Middle East especially in encouraging scientific research and organizing academic conferences and seminars and publication. In 2001, three years after its establishment, the unit held its first conference under the title "Omani heritage: past and present", many conferences have been held afterwards, and in 2014 the unit organised the tenth conference under the title al-Mubarred al-Azdi: his Efforts and Effects of Linguistic and Literary.
