Al-Maaitah launches the first “Ana Usharek” youth forum and signing a memorandum of understanding between the Independent Election and Al al-Bayt University
The activities of the first “Ana Usharek” youth forum were launched
at Al al-Bayt University in cooperation between the Independent Election
Commission, the Crown Prince Foundation and the Deanship of Student Affairs at the
University. Accordingly, Prof. Hani Al-Dmour, President of the University, and Eng.
Mousa Al-Maaitah, Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Independent
Election Commission, signed a memorandum of understanding aiming at deepening
academic and scientific cooperation between the two parties.
On launching the ceremony, Al-Maaitah said that the Youth Forum comes
as an embodiment of the royal vision to integrate Jordanian youth into
political work, with the aim of contributing to building a generation that
believes in its homeland and leadership indulged into teamwork rather than
individualism. He added that the launch of this Forum, in cooperation with the
Crown Prince Foundation, coincides with the celebration of the International
Youth Day, which constitutes a youth dialogue space through which topics
related to the political participation of young people are discussed, to come
up with proposals, visions and perceptions that enhance and activate their
political, partisan and electoral participation based on respect for diversity,
pluralism and commitment to law.
Al-Maaitah explained that the Youth Forum is an opportunity to
build the capacities of students participating in this forum, by holding
interactive training sessions held on the university campus, enhancing dialogue
and communication skills, stimulating critical thinking skills, identifying
issues and needs, and focusing on the concepts of national identity, active
citizenship, and political participation for youth, women and people with
disabilities.
Prof. Al-Dmour, in turn, confirmed that Al al-Bayt University was a
pioneer in understanding the messages of His Majesty King Abdullah II bin Al
Hussein and responding to the royal directives and the outputs of the Political
System Modernization Committee, part of which revolves around the necessity of
activating the role of youth in political participation. He indicated that Al
al-Bayt University affirms its absolute support for "Ana Usharek"
program, in a way that enhances the role of Jordanian youth in dialogue and
political activities and empowers them at universities.
As for the agreement - which was signed on the sidelines of the
launch of the forum – it aims to provide a framework for deepening cooperation
between the Commission and the university in the academic and practical fields,
through the implementation and development of joint training programs and
activities, holding training courses for university students, raising political
awareness among those students, including an elective educational course, and
exchange of academic and research experiences related to elections and
political parties.
The director of the Partnership Project, Aws Qtaishat, reviewed the
objectives of the forum and the axes that it will focus on, which are
legislation, the rule of law, national identity, human rights, political
participation, democracy, constitutional amendments, and the promotion of
political participation.
The inauguration was attended by the Dean of Student Affairs at Al
al-Bayt University, Prof. Sayel Al-Sarhan, Dean Assistant of Student Affairs,
Dr. Ghaith Al-Eitan, and a number of members of the local community and
students of “Ana Usharek” Program.
It is noteworthy that the forum will continue to hold its sessions
over a period of 3 days at Al al-Bayt University.
