A scientific lecture titled: "Positive Neutrality in Omani Foreign Policy"
Organized by the Omani Research and Studies Center at Al al-Bayt University, in cooperation with the Arab Thought Forum and in the presence of the Sultanate of Oman's ambassador to the Kingdom, the center held scientific lectures entitled "Positive Neutrality in Omani Foreign Policy" at the Forum's headquarters in the capital, Amman.
Dr. Al-Sadiq Al-Faqih, Secretary-General of the Arab Thought Forum, explained that the Sultanate of Oman has adopted a policy of positive neutrality since ancient times, and that it has a long and extended historical experience in this regard, indicating that the meaning of neutrality pursued by Oman does not mean that the state refrains negatively on its internal affairs only, but rather through its assistance to neighboring countries without interfering in their internal affairs, or siding with any party in regional conflicts, which helps to reduce conflicts and contribute to resolving disputes.
Dr. Al-Faqih explained during his speech that Oman's independent and positive neutral positions, despite the escalating tensions and conflicts in the Middle East region, place it in front of many internal and external challenges, especially from countries seeking to extend their regional influence, and consider any neutral position a threat to their strategies.
Dr. Al-Faqih pointed out in the beginning of his speech to the Omani Empire, indicating that it extended throughout history from the coasts of Africa to the coasts of India, and to the role of Omanis in enriching the Swahili language and literature in East Africa and the Great Lakes countries, which confirms the Omani man's ability to civilizational communication with various peoples and the formation of commercial, social and political relations, stressing that this spread and great influence of the Omani Empire throughout history was not a spread or influence by force, but rather was an aid and not an obstacle to the progress of countries.
Dr. Al-Faqih spoke about the Sultanate of Oman's foreign policy and its handling of crises, indicating its role in resolving many regional issues that the region has witnessed in recent years, as it contributed to reducing tension and holding peace talks between the parties to the conflict in Yemen, and its major role in the Iranian file and the Palestinian issue, which makes it a possible mediator in disputes between countries in the region and beyond.
During his presentation of the lecture, Dr. Muhammad Al-Qatatsha, former member of the House of Representatives and professor of political science at the University of Jordan, spoke about the change in the international political system, and that what is happening in the Middle East region, especially in Palestine, greatly affects the behaviors of countries in the region and their internal policies, as these events have become part of the policies of major countries' dealings with the countries of the region.
Dr. Al-Qatatsha pointed to the role of Arab countries in resolving conflicts through the signed peace agreements, and their role in promoting security and stability, indicating the positive, active and important Omani role in seeking to find a solution to the crises in the region, in coordination with the relevant international, regional and international parties in order to reach a peaceful and comprehensive political solution.
At the end of the seminar, there was an extensive discussion on the topic.
The seminar was attended by the Yemeni ambassador and a number of academic and political figures.
