Faculty Brief

The Prince Al-Hussein Bin Abdullah College of Information Technology at Al al-Bayt University is considered one of Jordan's distinguished academic institutions, keeping pace with modern sciences and global technologies. The college was established at the beginning of the academic year 2001/2002 as part of the national vision of His Majesty King Abdullah II ibn Al-Hussein - may God protect him - to position Jordan as a regional center in the field of information technology. From its inception, the college was intended to play a significant role in supporting the industrial and technological infrastructure of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

The college comprises two academic departments: the Department of Computer Science and the Department of Information Systems. It offers bachelor's degrees in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, Cybersecurity, Computer Information Systems, and Management Information Systems. Additionally, the college provides a master's degree in Computer Science.

The college aims to meet the needs of the Jordanian market in various computing fields, prepare well-trained national scientific talents in the field of information technology, and graduate distinguished professionals capable of handling computers, building computer systems, software, and networks. This comes in light of the increasing use of computers and applications, the continuous growth of internal and wireless networks, the spread of e-commerce, and the trend of governments to conduct transactions electronically.

The college received support for a project to build and equip an annex through a Saudi grant costing 1,826,000 Jordanian dinars. The project includes a building of approximately 2,000 square meters, containing nine classrooms, three laboratories, offices, and covered parking spaces. Construction was completed at the beginning of 2016. The project also provided various equipment, including computers, servers, a computer network, photocopiers, furniture, and educational tools. Moreover, the college's existing computer equipment was upgraded through the Saudi grant, replacing the laboratory computers with 440 modern devices. Additionally, the college's laboratories and computer classrooms were equipped with interactive boards and modern projectors.

The college has taken steps to activate the agreement between the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and Al al-Bayt University, which includes training new graduates from public universities as part of the practical training program and the bridging the gap between job market requirements and educational outcomes. The college aims to provide students with a strong theoretical foundation to develop their problem-solving skills, scientific analysis, teamwork, and understanding of the strong relationships between information technology and societal prosperity.

The Prince Al-Hussein Bin Abdullah College of Information Technology is a vital part of the academic and technological structure of Al al-Bayt University. Its programs and activities focus on the quality of education, encouraging scientific research, and serving the Jordanian community. In this way, the college plays a key role in building the nation's economy and strengthening its scientific capabilities.

Additionally, the college actively participates in organizing various scientific and community events. Recent activities include participating in the largest AI hackathon in Jordan, organizing specialized workshops in cybersecurity, and announcing intensive training programs to prepare students for the university competency exam. The college has also held orientation sessions for new students to familiarize them with academic programs and available services, enhancing their integration into the university environment. These activities aim to refine students' skills and enhance their readiness for job market requirements.

To achieve its goals, the university administration has provided the college with 18 personal computer laboratories, a network laboratory, a parallel computing laboratory, a digital logic circuits laboratory, as well as laptops, data projectors, and modern servers. The laboratories are connected to the university's local network, which is linked to the global Internet. The college accommodates over 2,000 students taught by 30 faculty members across various specialties. Additionally, the college employs 16 lab supervisors and seven administrative staff members.

The college strives to align university education outputs with the needs of Jordan's industrial and service sectors by developing applied scientific research and putting innovative ideas into practice through student projects and postgraduate studies. The college's curriculum is distinguished by its focus on practical aspects, with laboratories available for most theoretical courses. Furthermore, the college looks forward to recruiting new faculty members and has sent outstanding individuals to prestigious universities to specialize in new computing fields. It also aims to establish additional mechanisms and standards for performance evaluation and quality assurance improvement.
