The Efficiency of a Cognitive Behavioral Group Counseling Program in the Treatment of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
The aim of this study was to examine the efficiency of a cognitive
behavioral group-counseling program in the treatment of obsessivecompulsive
disorder among a sample of university students.
The population consisted of undergraduate students from the
faculty of education at Al al-Bayt University. The sample of the study
consisted of (20) individuals randomly who had degree obsessivecompulsive
disorder distributed to two groups, experimental and control.
The experimental group composed of (10) students (4 males and 6
females) while the control group composed of (10) students (7 males and
3 females).
The experimental group received cognitive behavioral training
program, whereas the control group did not receive any kind of training
programs. The training program consisted of twelve-hour sessions spread
over six weeks, aimed at developing their skills by using cognitive?
behavioral strategies that deal with obsessive-compulsive disorder.
To identify statistically significant differences between the two
groups, analysis of covariance-ANCOVA was using. Results indicated
that there were statistically significant differences between the
experimental and control group in subscales of the obsessive disorder
scale.
Finally, it was concluding that the cognitive behavioral group
counseling training program was effective in treating obsessivecompulsive
