at Investigating How Much Social Media is Used By Al al-Bayt University Students
Abstract
This study aimed at Investigating How Much Social Media is Used By Al al-Bayt University Students. To achieve this purpose, a randomized stratified sample was selected consisting of (1316) students in the academic year (2012/2013) . The results show that more than half of all students use social media: males more than females, science majors more than humanities majors, and master's degree students more than bachelor's degree students. The results also revealed that the use of social media increased as the academic level of the students increased. Furthermore, students who live in cities use it more than those who live in villages, and Jordanian students use it more than non-Jordanian students. The results showed that Facebook was the most popular site/application used by the students with Youtube being the least used. These results were discussed by self-presentation theory, self- disclosure theory, and the past studies.
