A suggested educational guide to enhance the role of public schools in Jordan in developing the principles of democracy among students based on discussion papers
Objectives: The study aimed to propose an educational guide for Jordanian public schools in developing the principles of democracy among students based on the royal discussion papers, and it also aimed to highlight ways to activate the role of schools in developing the principles of democracy based on the royal discussion papers from the teachers' point of view. Methods: The study used the qualitative method in collecting data from the study population, and revealing the role of Jordanian schools in promoting and developing the principles of democracy, namely respect for opinions, participation in political life, freedom of expression, political pluralism, separation of powers, and the application of laws in a fair and equal manner to all citizens. , equality and tolerance, and safeguarding the rights of minorities. The study population consisted of (85,845) teachers in Jordanian schools for the academic year 2020/2021. Data was collected through interviews with (20) teachers. Results: The results indicated that 90% of the study sample agreed on the need to propose an educational guide for public schools to enhance their role in developing the principles of democracy based on the royal discussion papers. the law, and motivate them to participate in public life and enjoy justice and equality at the same time. It also showed that the promotion of democratic principles is through curricula and the role of the teacher. 70% of the sample indicated that the principles of democracy are spread among the students. Conclusions: The educational guide was proposed to enhance the role of public schools in developing the principles of democracy based on the discussion papers. The study recommends that schools should pay attention, through their various resources and channels, to spreading the principles of democracy among students and teachers, through courses, activities, meetings and seminars.
