German orientalists' views on the sources of Levantine history - Abu Zaraa Al-Dimashqi as a model
This study, entitled "The Views of German Orientalists towards the Sources of Levantine History - Abu Zara'a al-Dimashqi as a Model", dealt with the orientation of many German historians interested in Islamic history in the Levant to study, analyze, and evaluate the primary sources of Arab historical writings that were concerned with the history of the Levant in the early days of Islam, such as the historical writings of Abu Zara'a. In general, critical German studies have begun to reveal the reality of the difficulties in dealing with these writings, although German critical studies show some weaknesses in Arab and Islamic sources that chronicle events in the Levant, they sometimes prefer them to Christian and Greek sources.
In general, this study aims to give a historical overview of German orientalists, their interest in Arab-Islamic history, and the opinion of some of them in the novels that dated the Levant, and to provide an assessment of the German novels of the first -and second -generation historians that were transferred from the writings of Arab-Islamic history, as well as showing the differences between the first, second and third generation of German historians towards Arab-Islamic history, and their efforts in following the accurate scientific method in their studies on the sources of Arab-Islamic history, and their findings in this field.
The study, for example, showed that Abu Zara'a's historical writings are an important source of information about Syrian scholars in the early centuries of the Hijra, and represent an advanced paradigm stage of development in the field of Arabic historical writings.
