Impact of Using Rubberized Concrete as a Sustainable Construction Management Action on the Performance of Reinforced Concrete Frames Under Earthquakes Records
Rubberized concrete has been the focus of in-depth research due to its potential as an environmentally responsible and sustainable replacement for standard concrete. This innovative material is formulated by integrating recycled rubber particles from used tires in place of natural aggregates. The outcomes of these studies have highlighted an enhancement in certain properties of rubberized concrete, such as ductility, energy absorption capacity, and damping ratios. However, it has also demonstrated a drop in mechanical properties when compared to conventional concrete. Despite the insightful findings, the existing literature lacks a thorough numerical study that completely explains the seismic performance of structures built with rubberized concrete. Addressing this need, this research intends to investigate the effects of rubberized concrete on the seismic responses of reinforced concrete structures. This study uses nonlinear response history analysis to examine reinforced concrete frames, incorporating various ground motion records. This study's findings broadly suggest that replacing conventional concrete with rubberized concrete yields superior energy-damping capacity.
